Dare to care for Curly Hair????

Rachel and I are reading a new book. The Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey

Curly hair is in "the genes" as they say. I have always given the credit for our curls to our Greek/Portugese heritage. Grandma, Mom, her sisters, we all have the curls, some more curly than others but they are there. Dad's hair is curly too but of course he always keeps it short and trim, so its not much of an issue for him. (haha that rhymed!!!)
Now for Mom, I remember hearing stories of how horrid it was for her as a child, her hair was SOOOOO curly and the styles are SOOOOO straight.
Now when I was little it was not so bad, my hair was kept short, it had some wave to it, but not ringlets you know..not the Shirley Temple stuff.  As a teenager, the wave and the frizz started to increase but I still pretty much liked my hair. When I was 16 I got a spiral perm, and I loved it!! Now the older I get, the curlier my hair is getting. No need for  a perm now. Sometimes I really get annoyed with my curly hair. Sometimes I think to myself, "It is such a pain to have curly hair. Those folks with straight hair have NO idea what I go thru. "

So now I have a 20 yr old daughter with wavy, frizzy hair. She straightens her hair almost every day for the last 3-4 years. Well do I blame her? No .

In comes The Curly Girl Handbook!!! Testimonies of how many others with curls have suffered!!!
LOL ;-P
So many people with curly hair struggle with it. the book has many testimonies of girls who DREADED going to school, going to church, basically their life was RUINED in their eyes, emotionall scarred because of curly hair. for example: one lady went to a practice job interview and was told that for a REAL interview, she should straighten her hair!!!
Testimonies of those who have used Lorraines ideas and now they love their curls!!!!!  Suggestions of how to wash, condition, style and cut your curls, to encourage its loveliness and lessen the FRIZZ!!! So ....we are all reading it and trying some of the ideas in it. Pretty exciting stuff.
So Thank you Thank you Lorraine Massey. Love your book so far.

There are some good quotes :" Youve been blessed with hair that has a mind and life of its own." pg 92

"When it comes to curls, the beauty school curriculum is dated and archaic. The hair academy should have a whole wing dedicated to curl facts and the cutting and care of natural curls. " page 94

Summer

The summer is going by so fast. Today was the first day for weeks that I have stayed home and not been running around town. I got to do some LAUNDRY and hang it out in the SUNSHINE!!! It was great. Then I relaxed out in the SUNSHINE with my pillow for 15 min. AHHHH.. Caleb and Andy mowed the lawn in front and back AND did all the weed wacking. OH I am blessed. Emily, Jon and Andy ate popscicles while swinging in the back yard.
oh, and then JOn spilled Tomato juice in the kitchen, it sprayed all over himself, Emily, the floor, the cabinets, the refridgerator and ALAMO (Rachel's dog). So I decided to play a trick on Rachel when she came home, We had cleaned up all the tomato juice, except what was on Mo's head, it looked like red gashes all over his head and neck. She comes walking in , WHAT HAPPENed??????? hahaha I couldnt hold it back, she might have started crying! So I told her it was just tomato juice.
I thought it was funny.
She washed him up and now he looks kinda pink.

And Rachel still shared some chocolate with me.
Time to go water the garden and go to bed. This has been a nice summer day.

writing a blog

I have been very busy. Lately I have been thinking about a lot of things but can't seem to put them down in writing. There are blogs I read where it seems I  "hear" the persons voice while I am reading it...these are the ones where you really feel like you know the person that is writing. You get to know them thru their writing. When I read Dr. Sam Gipp's books, I "hear" his voice as I am reading it.....

So when people encourage me to write, it is scary, intimidating and hard- because they will hear my voice. Will they hear something good? Edifying? Do I get across to them in typed words on a  screen, the same thing that I am saying. For example, using FB. So many comments and statements are misunderstood. I type something, then get in an argument 26 comments long, trying to explain that I did not mean what they thought I meant. LOL.

Thanks to all of you who write blogs, I do love to read them. You give me laughter and encouragement. =-)

I started my Avon business in August 2010. I really didnt plan on doing much with it, except for selling to family and friends, and using it my own personal purchases. It is going so well I have decided to really "work" on it part time. I set my hours Tues 2-5 and Thurs 2-5 and sometimes Friday or Sat 2-5. We have been so busy with basketball the last few months, I havent worked all of those days, but I do fit in customers/deliveries in between times.

So now I have entered business school. It is not thru the community college or university, it is the school of learning by doing and learning by free books from the Library.
So my reading list is now changed and I am learning some new things about business and how to run it etc.
Here are a few of the interesting titles I have been reading in 2011.
Mompreneurs,  What they dont teach you at Harvard Business School, Microsoft Office for Dummies,  and Mommy Millionaire.
