Its been a long time since I have done this. Stayed in pajamas all day. Drank tea and chicken soup. and caught up on some reading.

Mama was a missionary by Charles Ludwig is a book I started reading aloud to Emily and Jon several years ago. It is a story about Twyla Ludwig a missionary to Africa from 1927 to 1961.

When I started reading this book I had no idea that I would become a missionary..

While reading aloud, I had to skip a few parts, due to the delicate and morbid descriptions of the abuse of women in Africa. We laughed about so many cultural differences and funny things that happened in the story. Their ministry was starting churches and schools, teaching the men and women to work and study the Bible, with extra importance on teaching the women home skills, like child rearing, sewing, and cooking.

At one point during my personal struggling with the Lord about going to the Philippines, I stopped reading this book. I felt I was a hypocrite. I couldn't read it for about 1 month.

At the point where we returned to the story, the Lord used a particular chapter to show me that all of my struggle is very normal and these missionaries had those struggles as well.
Charles Ludwig, the author, struggled at times, and wrote one chapter, what a coincidence!!! right where we picked up, about how in his teen years, he rebelled against his parents a bit. He tells of getting to a point where he was so SICK and TIRED of hearing about all of his parents plans for NEW Africa and the girls home, the girls home, the girls home.....ahhhhh
and his very sad and humble plea for a bottle of REAL ketchup for Christmas.

It had funny moments where an African man, a Christian, in his quest to find a wife, chose one who was "Plump and strong and could work longer in the garden than any of the other girls" . we all laughed at that one.....

Mrs Ludwig died Dec 15, 1960 of a cerebral hemmorage, She was 70 years old. On Dec 14, 1960 she had told the girls at the school, "We're building a new Africa with Christ! We must do our best!!"
http://www.currclick.com/rss.php?affiliate_id=7042
AnnaShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11050846887954253802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843843240517632336.post-13349200007211346672013-12-17T14:45:00.000-08:002013-12-17T14:46:52.215-08:00Trip to Philippines and ThailandSept 1 to Sept 18 , 2013
I saw this idea on another runners page, that they would post their miles for someone else who had physical limitations. The purpose is to encourage the family in their day to day challenges and that they would know someone else is thinking of them and praying for them. So I choose to Run for Benaiah, and to remember to Pray for him each time I Swim, Bike, Run this upcoming year .

This is a tool to encourage and challenge the worker in their

efforts. To put those goals visually in front of the worker day by day.

I was encouraged to make one for my Avon business last year and I did

I felt it was a help to me, so this year I created one for my Avon and Personal life combined.

I also encouraged my children to all make a dream/goal board for 2013 of things they would

like to accomplish in 2013. It was very uplifting and interesting to see the things they put on their boards.

Some of the childrens goals:

to pray for someone other than myself each day

to keep my room clean

I am learning a lot and have made a lot of progress, but just don't feel confident in myself to do it. So I decided to continue training and plan for next year.

Of the 3 sports, running is the hardest for me. I love swimming and I love bicycling. I don't love to RUN. I love the RUN after I get done!!! I usually have to drag myself to it either outside or on a treadmill or whatever, and afterwards I am ALWAYS glad I RAN.

So I signed up for a 5K
Strides for Strong Bones Medical Lake WA Aug 17, 2013
Toni Thompson went and completed the race with me. Its so much more fun with a friend!!
Time was 51:53

PICTURES HERE (must get pictures from Toni)
Leah was our dog for 13 years. Rachel picked her out from a litter of puppies, when Leah was only 6 weeks old. Josh taught Leah how to shake. She was our family pet. We had a lot of laughs with Leah. The kids dressed her up in clothes. We called her Velcro Dog, because she stuck to Greg like Velcro.
We also called her Fatal attraction, because she would lay on Greg's lap and stare at him....She had a good life and was a good guard dog. She barked at intruders. She loved our friends Marco, Angie Willis and Cameron, and Jenny Fish. Leah was very old and sick, her back legs no longer worked for her. . We had to take her to the Vet and say good bye to her. Our family was very sad.

1.My homeschool lesson consists of writing on the dry erase board, explaining to the children what 70.3 and 140.6 is.

2. My favorite magazines are Runners World and Bicycling.

3. My daughter who works at the Library brings me home every book the library carries on Triathlons/Triathletes.

4. I like to window shop in Bicycle stores and look at all the clothing and extra goodies...

5. Instead of snacking on candy bars, now I like to try different energy bars and gels and jelly beans that you eat while riding my bike.

6. I drink water out of my cycling water bottle all the time, not just when riding the bike.

7. I like to explore new bike trails.

8. Eating changes from just eating what you like to eating as FUEL to keep you swimming/biking/running longer.....

9. I know what a brick is. I know what a cassette is. and I know how to change a tire.

10. I cheer for every person I see riding a bicycle or running down the road.
May - 26.2 miles running/walking- outside, on the track, on the treadmill, on the elliptical runner, also Water running class .Various days, 2-3 miles at most on treadmill, ugh...cant seem to stay on it longer than 3 miles.....boring.... Some weights and Turbokick thrown in there too.

I have looked at several "Training Schedules" in books, but none of them seem to fit my lifestyle of church, homeschooling, busy truckdriver husband coming back and forth and 1 adult child in the house, 2 teenage boys with a Lawn maintenance business, basketball workouts and 2 preteens....so I just get a blank calendar and make up my own schedule, fit in as many workouts as I can.
Sometimes its VERY expensive. One of my friends calls me the Queen of FREE, I do find a lot of things FREE or very low price. Since we are a family of one income and a part time Avon business, I try to be wise about spending money....So...

I decided to become a triathlete in January 2013.
Past the Basics

February - I bought a new pair of Nike running shoes $55

then I bought some workout clothes from Target
$21 pants, $6 running shirt (wicking material-dries fast), and $ 6 running bra

Goggles $5 and New Swim Suit from SWIM OUTLET.com $26
(needed the swim suit badly, my other one was a maternity swim suit , from when pregnant with
Jonathan (HE is 11 years old!!! AHH)

The Nike running shoes didn't work out for me, I started having some problems with my knee/IT band, so then I spent some $$$ at Physical Therapy- April, May
***SPECIAL NOTE- my PT Fred says , If you are gonna run, you need to buy good shoes and stretch. You can either put out the money for good shoes or you can pay to come see me when you are injured. WORDS OF WISDOM from Fred the PT******

So.......

June - Bought NICE Running shoes - Get Fitted at a Running Store- I chose Brooks $145
No more pain in knees or hips, Definitely WORTH IT-

July - Local Bicycle shop- sold me a Used as a Rental - refurbished Road Bike - Raleigh $325
(No you don't HAVE to have a fancy bike ($4000 yikes)

Books: $25 The Slow Fat Athlete and Meredith Atwood's book-Triathlon for the Every Woman: You can Be a Triathlete. Yes. You.

$809 plus the $112 = $921 so far.....

Cycling Gloves- $21 on sale
Odometer for my bike- $31
Spare Tube and Saddle bag $28

So now I am up to $1001.

I prayed about getting a bike. I did not want to take

money from our family budget to buy it. I asked the Lord

to provide it for me , if He wanted me to have it.

So one person gave me some money for a gift, then the Lord sent me a

babysitting job, then some Avon sales and after all that I was $35 short of the total

needed for this bike. I was scrambling (oh me of little faith),

to find out where I would get the last $35. I was digging around, oh I could sell this and get $15. or this???

Then , I got my commission check from

Avon. Its always weird amounts, like $7.92, or$ 22.37 or $51.09.

This check also was from 4 weeks ago, so when I got it,

I realized, again, that God always takes care of things...

So here is my lovely new road bike, thanks to the Lord

and John down at Mountain View Cyclery in Hayden ID for selling me a used bike,

in excellent condition.

I have not named it yet. My friend Meredith says you should name your bike.

Rachel said I should name it 20 miles, so then I could say, "I rode 20 miles today!!"

Well, I finished!! As my friend Liz told me, You can do it. You will do it, one mile at a time. And I did. Ironman length over 3 months. So its not in one day. Its a beginner triathlon. I rode all the bike miles inside the Kroc center and swam all the laps in the Kroc pool. Some of the running was on a track, on a elliptical machine, some on a treadmill, and some outside.
These are my prizes: swim cap for the swim portion 2.4 miles, water bottle for 112 miles on the bike, and the bag for 26.2 miles walking/running (140.6).

I loved it. And when I finished, I went to the Chiropractor for an adjustment and a massage. The Dr said, "What's next?" . I am still trying to decide what is next. All I know is that I really enjoy the Tri sports and don't want to stop. So I signed up for a 5K in Medical Lake WA August 17, 2013. That's next.

I am reading a lot of books right now. Here are a few of them.
I joined a Triathlon club. What a bunch of great people. I was very intimidated to go to

the sign up meeting, but the people were so encouraging and welcoming. All ages, sizes, and races- meaning , what race are you doing?? Some Ironman, some Sprint, some 5K, 10K . All competing against themselves- running their OWN race.

I thought this was funny. It is definitely for me right now. The fitness level I am at now needs a boost and so

I am challenged to start training for triathalon.

The last few years I seem to be caving in to a Fear mentality. After taking a few STEPS of Faith, or LEAPS or JUMPS, we felt discouraged, fearful, cautious, defeated about doing many things.

Our whole family seems to be feeling it. I found it interested that Greg, Caleb and Andy all preached at the Watch night service- all 3 messages kinda went together.

Greg- having Triumph in Christ, Caleb - Be a Nevertheless Christian and Andy - Fear Not.

In 2012, our family has been challenged and stretched. To get away from the Fear. To once again, step out and Do hard things. Good things that the Lord wants to help us with.

My kids have been serving in an assisted living home, since 2 of the men in our church have not been able to be there. Caleb is 15 and does the preaching, Andrew is 14 and does the prayer reqests and Jonathan age 10 is the song leader. They had been practicing in this capacity for a while with their Dad, but lately they have been running the services themselves. Emily and Rachel and Caleb all take turns playing the piano. We are being pushed out of our comfort zones and it is good.

In 2012 the Lord revealed to me that I am scared to go on a missions trip. Scared of the unknown, pain, trials, uncomfortable situations that I could be faced with. I surrendered to the Lord that I would go on a missions trip if He wanted me to. For Christmas we received money for Greg and I to get our passports and buy tickets to go to the Philippines and Thailand this year. WOW.

So the triathalon is just another extension of this, walking in Faith and not in Fear. I went for my first outdoor run last night with my friend Liz. I was scared I would fall on the ice. I did not fall. It was FUN!! I was afraid

I would not make it to the end, but I did. ( it was a run/walk/run/walk/run /walk) lol. Thank you Lord for helping me to get over the fear.

Fear not for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine.

Fear thou not, for I am with thee. Be not dismayed for I am thy God, I will strengthen thee, yea I will help thee, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Mr. Furhman is a seasoned detective and gives you the inside story on this case. I was terrified at night after reading this book. I had to pray so I could go to sleep!

This month I also read The Redemption of Sarah Cain by Beverly Lewis. This was a good book. I enjoyed it. Easy reading, Christian Fiction. For Business training, I have been reading Yes, You Can! by Art Linkletter. Basic tips for excelling in business.
As they say, you gotta "eat the meat and spit out the bones" . I do not endorse or agree with every suggestion in these books, but there are some good ideas. That is for you and your family to pray about and pick and choose.

A seminar by Carole Joy Seid. I went to this back in 2004 . Some notes you may be able to find online. (or you can borrow mine)
I read alot about homeschooling. I have read about How to homeschool, how to teach boys, how to teach girls, right brain learners, etc. I am not a college graduate. I do not have a teaching degree. I am not the best reader. Sometimes people look at my kids and say wow. They have this perception that I am this SUPER Teacher. Well I am not. I am just a woman trying to do what God called me to do.

When I got saved, I was 21 yrs old, with a 2 yr old daughter. A single mom, working my way up the corporate ladder, so to speak. One of my first friends at church was a mother of 3 boys and she homeschooled. This was the first I had ever heard of it. I had been in public school K-12 and taken some community college classes . The Lord started working on me about this and I was interested, my spirit was curious and my flesh didnt want to give up the business work that i had been doing. The Lord allowed circumstances that caused me to come home from work for 3 months, and after 3 months home with my daughter, I didnt want to go back. =-)

Fast forward a few years. I got married, had a few more children. Before Greg and I got married, we discussed children, how we would raise them and school them. We both believed that God wanted us to homeschool.
When we moved to Idaho, we had 5 children - ages 11, 5, 4, 1 1/2 yrs, and an 8 month old. We started our day reading the Bible and praying.
That is my #1 prescription for homeschooling. Read the Bible with the children and Pray. All 5 of my children learned to read using a basic phonics program and a King James Bible. Glory to God.

Now, the misperceptions I am talking about are many.
Here is one of them : "I am not smart enough to teach them. "
Now the public schools and other people would love for you to believe this. Just quit thinking you can do it and throw those kids out for the yellow bus to pick up. Its just not true. God gave you (and your husband) the wisdom to do what needs to be done with your kids.
There are so many I can't write about them all in one post. Todd Wilson hits alot of them in his book, Lies Homeschooling Moms Believe. I know that many people home school today without any type of spiritual guidance or direction. Many of them are unhappy with what they are getting in the public school setting. As a Christian, I believe if God wants you to do something, then He will help you do it. I have told the Lord many days, I dont know how to do this and I need your help and He helps me.
http://www.currclick.com/rss.php?affiliate_id=7042
AnnaShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11050846887954253802noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843843240517632336.post-5653248175735276312011-11-24T11:31:00.000-08:002011-11-24T11:37:37.498-08:00Happy Thanksgiving 2011

Happy Thanksgiving at the Stedmans

This is a topic that always has me perplexed. Whenever it is discussed I start to get DOWN on myself and think that I have NONE. Realizing this is not true (think on these things- whatsoever is TRUE), I hope to spend some time searching this out. Many times in my flesh I think of the gifts that man sees, preaching, teaching, playing piano and teaching Sunday school, other things that are in the SPOTLIGHT. There are many gifts that are behind the scenes. I dont like people looking at me. When I was a child, I took gymnastics for many years and I liked to do all of the cartwheels and routines and such. But when it came to being on the stage for all to see, UGH I hated it, dreaded it. I still dont care for being in front of an audience, I avoid it as much as possible. There have been a few times that the Lord asked me to speak or pray in front of a group of ladies and I have to spend alot of time in prayer and seeking HELP to make it thru. I CAN do it with the Lord's help, but I dont necessarily enjoy it.

Romans 12: 5-21 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation; he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
Then it continues on with a list of other things: Love, abhor that which is evil, cleave to the good, be kindly affectioned one to another, not slothful in businesss....on down thru the chapter.
http://www.currclick.com/rss.php?affiliate_id=7042
AnnaShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11050846887954253802noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843843240517632336.post-48810416962828352502011-10-31T10:52:00.000-07:002011-10-31T11:23:04.718-07:00Seek ye first the Kingdom of GodSeek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.
I homeschool because I believe its what God wants me to do. As I seek Him, He helps me with the task that I am taking on.
I have learned some things while home educating my children. I have learned that homeschooling is not for everyone. I have learned that in the beginning, some family members were uneasy about it, but as the years go by, it is more accepted and understood. I have learned that God gave Moms and Dads the wisdom to teach THEIR OWN children and that Families can do it differently and still be pleasing the Lord.
I went to a seminar in 2003 and heard a lady speak and she said this- Homeschooling should be like a 3 legged stool- those 3 legs being Study/Work/Service. Any one of these overdone can be a problem, but using all three legs keeps your family in balance.

Study- Reading, writing, Bible, Math, Science, Art all the usual classes, plus Sunday school, church services and I like to include Special Preaching meetings- traveling to Revivals/Missions conferences etc. (Bible learning and SOCIALIZATION! LOL) Too much of this and none of the other can make the children all puffed up, conceited and without consideration for others.

Work- as in housework, yardwork, play work- (like Legos, dolls, playdough, and other play- this is the kind of work children like BEST!) crafts, wood work, hunting work, fishing, sewing, exercise work, cooking, laundry, etc . Too much of this and no Study- well, lets just say Bartholomew cant read.....???

Service- serving others- Nursing home ministry, 4H programs- community service, church clean up, Fair Booth ministry, Food Bank, raking leaves for a neighbor , you fill in what your family does to serve. Children learn manners and kindness and to think of someone besides SELF.

One other thing she said- You cant homeschool if youre not HOME. Meaning, too many field trips, parties, vacations and other interruptions take away from their education.

I thought this was very wise counsel from this lady. The only thing I would add to it is PRAYER.
http://www.currclick.com/rss.php?affiliate_id=7042
AnnaShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11050846887954253802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843843240517632336.post-69350820815139581552011-10-30T19:49:00.000-07:002011-10-31T11:10:54.478-07:00ThingsThings I think about.....

Why I do certain things. Why other people do things. What are we looking for in these things that we do.

Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.

Where will I be in 5 yrs? What will I be doing? What will my children be doing in 5 yrs?
Psalm 78 teach children about God, his strength, his wonderful works.....WHY? That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God.
That they might not be stubborn and rebellious.

I think about that I dont want sin to have dominion over me.

about God's characteristics like, Merciful, Holy, gracious, a strong Lord, a Father, my refuge and my fortress.

That He planted the ear, formed the eye, that He made me and knows my weaknesses.

I think about friends and how God has placed certain people in places for specific reasons- far away ones that I miss, and near ones that I cannot seem to get close to.

I think about traveling to places and how there are Christian people all over this world, that you meet up with them and that its like a big Family reunion. And Family on this earth, that are not saved, that wont be there in Heaven for the reunion.

nov 9, 1992 I got saved. I am thankful .

I think about babies. I love my children. I am so glad God gave them to me. I love other peoples babies, esp the ones in our church right now...

having clean water to drink.
http://www.currclick.com/rss.php?affiliate_id=7042
AnnaShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11050846887954253802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4843843240517632336.post-87875507289979604012011-10-10T13:13:00.000-07:002011-10-10T13:17:59.968-07:00RMCA Gazette October 10, 2011
